Born to Live

"You are born to live, not live because you are born"

This blog might seem very crazy or stupid for some, but I personally feel that I had to anyway convey this message to everyone. This one is mostly for teenagers, people in their early 20’s and those who have still not met their goals.
Have you ever thought of what you would be 10-15 years from now? Do you have a goal? Do you have an aim? Do you have a dream? Or are you still confused about your future? Have you thought about your career? If not ever wondered would you be happy or successful? Lot of questions would burst up once you start thinking these things. I have seen advertisement’s who offer career guidance. If you go there, they’ll pour on you loads of courses to do and trying to convince you that there are big salary packages in future if you pursue those courses. But does anyone of them tell you that you can become an actor, a musician, a DJ, a soldier, a fire fighter, a wrestler, a sportsman, a social worker, a producer, a cartoonist, an animator, a poet, a writer and many more to mention. No, they won’t tell you these things, because these things are out of the box. Go around to the people you know and ask ten of them what their profession is. You might get answers like doctor, engineer, teacher, accountant, manager, customer service agent but hardly would you get which mentioned above. There are possibilities of social worker as now days it has become a trend as corporate companies “pay” these people to do social work.
So why won’t you get the above mentioned professions? Because most of us follow a made up pattern of our life. After you are done with your studies, find a job ASAP, then try to get a job with a better salary, few years later you have to get married, go on a vacation once or twice a year, make a family and then the same goes on with your kid. If you want to become an actor, a musician, a poet, a producer, it would take years for you to reach your goal and if you are lucky you might get that in your 20’s. But your parents and your society won’t let you take that risk. According to “people” you have to be settled by the age of 30. Being a struggling actor………..oh my god!!!! “You are 25 now and still you have no relieving job, what would we tell others?” This line demolishes the dream of an actor forcing him to do a job which he is not at all interested in but just to earn some money. If one wants to join the army or rescue missions, one has to and mandatorily has to sacrifice his later teenage and early 20’s life which is a hard thing to do and not all the guardians ever think about this as a career. There is pattern which most of the people follow as per the age of a person, by 21-23 your studies should be completed, by 25-26 you should be working at some MNC and well settled, by 28-30 your should get married and by 33-35 let’s give birth to a child. And let me tell you many are scared if things do not happen as per the age mentioned. Many of you want to do things which you have always dreamt of but you are working at some boring place just by the fear of your parents and society. If you want to be a musician, dancer, actor, poet then get out of that work space and start working on your talent. Let people know what you are. You won’t be successful in a day, a month or a year, but someday you would be proud of yourself and happy to choose this path. Rome was not built in a day; similarly it would take time and efforts for your success too. Be hungry, spend sleepless nights, beg and borrow if needed, become shameless and let go off that thought from your mind what people would think because at the end YOU are going to gain whatever comes. People just speak and they forget. The road to success is thought to be as start-journey-success, but its not how its thought. The road to success is start-journey-failure-journey-failure-journey-failure-success. You will fail  a couple of times maybe more but that's you will learn and later succeed. The road to success is not a clean one, it has, failures, break downs, disappointments, and many such things. The movie ‘3 idiots’ clearly manifests that if you want to become something that you want, go ahead and follow your dream. You need to do a job which you enjoy and you are enjoying your job that time when you are not in a hurry to go neither home nor are you waiting for holidays. Yes, people are in hurry to go home and are greedy for week off’s because they “do not” enjoy their work. I had heard somewhere, “Make your passion your profession then you would love your work.”

You wake up every morning and follow the same steps which you had yesterday. You have bounded yourself into things like, religion, race, standard, groups, languages and many such things. These things keep you away from some wonderful things which you have not explored. For example religion as in Christianity, many people think that metal music is anti-christ, well it’s not. It’s just a genre of music. Some parents don’t let their kid’s dance, especially girls thinking that it’s not in their standards. Yes now this does sound stupid but it’s true as I have witnessed these incidents. We all want to be successful but we do not try to even step out of the boundary. Cross it, think different, go way beyond your limits and then see how your dreams would be wandering around you. All you need to do is, stop following that age pattern, stop thinking what people would think about you, stop thinking that what if you fail, start taking risks, oppose your parents if you trust in yourself and one day they would be proud of you.

  1. Very gud write up. U have highlighted correctly the communication gap between generations. U are right in saying that most of the parents do not think beyond being an engineer or doctor for their kids but times are changing. "Make your passion your paycheck" should be the mantra of the younger generation
